there was a momentary mental panic when Donnie asked him if he wanted to talk about something and Mikey inwardly cringed at the question. well this was no good. the last thing he wanted was to have Donnie asking questions and worrying about the younger turtle. especially considering he probably had way more important stuff to worry about. besides, as much as Mikey wanted to come clean and talk about how he was feeling and the difficulties he was having, he wouldn’t put that burden on any of his brothers. it was his own thing to deal with in his own way. which usually meant… art. Mikey was going to be doing a lot of that later on, he was sure of that.
『 ❝ who me? ‘course I’m okay, Donnie. why wouldn’t I be okay? ❞ 』 opting to play coy, Mikey turned his full attention to his older brother and grinned at him, waving a hand dismissively as though it would push the question away. he even chuckled lightly in hopes that it would make the situation less awkward for them both. 『 ❝ just… thinking about what I want to draw later. been a while since I drew something and the lair could really use some sprucing up. don’t you think? ❞ 』
All of Mikey's smiles are so convincing - though he wonders if that could just be him, or if Leo would also be fooled. But whether the smile is genuine or not, one thing is obvious regardless; if Mikey is upset about something, he doesn't want to talk about it, even when given the opportunity to do so. If there's one thing Donnie can recognize, it's the deflection of an uncomfortable subject. And if that's how he can provide comfort to his brother for the moment, in the form of distractive conversation . . . well. He could manage that much.
“ - that so? . . . any ideas, then? or are you struggling to find your muse? ”
