if you have an idea for a plot, whether it be to start a chapter or to start a story, and you dont know how to initiate it, take the old x-y-z-thesis essay approach: start somewhere else. write something you do know, like a funny quip about a situation or a dialogue interaction. then go back and try to create a lead in for that, like building a puzzle from scratch.

Have you ever read Daughter of Necessity by Marie Brennan. Ever since I stumbled upon I can't stop thinking about the concept of Penelope with weaving powers. I think you would like it.

i have NOT read it but the fact that it’s free online means that i will definitely be doing so, thanks for the tip!

EDIT: as a side note, “penelope with weaving powers” is like. the basis of my witch penelope wip that i have yet to write so maybe someday i will be able to deliver on that concept as well

SECOND EDIT: i can’t tell if the online version was like a precursor to a (longer?) published version or not but i will figure it out eventually
