a commission for @linnpuzzle, who asked for tsuzuki and hisoka having a soft moment in meifu and/or enjoying bubble tea. i went with both. :D thank you to linn for the love and support, i super super appreciate it!

(why is hisoka so tall? who knows. not me.)

1. my stubbornness. i am eternally stubborn when i’ve made up my mind on something, and i basically run on caffeine and spite at this point. stubborn to a fault, in some matters, but do i care?? no. there are some things you just don’t challenge me on, and i (not so) secretly love a good debate.

2. i am a really good cook. i make excellent foods. i’m vegetarian and becoming one forced me to learn new recipes and that’s when i discovered i love it, and now i haunt the internet looking for ways to improve. let me cook for u!!

3. i’m apparently really good at explaining things and helping other people understand them. i’ve been told this a few times recently, by different people in different contexts and it’s definitely something to be proud of i think. :>

4. i’m great at kicking ass. i love martial arts, and practice something called nanbudo, and i’m going for a brown belt next.

who gets overwhelmed by small acts of kindness?

Hisoka, for sure. Hisoka’s not accustomed to being cared for and often doesn’t seem to know how to respond, or how to return the gesture later.

who flinches at sudden movements?

Hisoka again. Tsuzuki’s response to trauma is to shut down, Hisoka’s is to go down fighting.

who is most confused as to why their S.O. is still with them?

Tsuzuki – he’s used to being too much to handle for his partners and so is always waiting for the other shoe to drop. It continually surprises him when Hisoka sticks around, even when Tsuzuki is being difficult to love.

who has to constantly check their S.O. still loves them?

Tsuzuki again. He’s very emotionally unstable and needs a lot of reassurance that people want him around.

who says the other/s would be better off with someone else?

Tsuzuki yet again lol. Hisoka deserves the world in his eyes, and he knows he’s very difficult to deal with, and is worried that Hisoka would be happier/healthier with someone different, that he’s just making Hisoka’s problems worse. That’s not even close to true, since no one bothered caring for Hisoka at all until Tsuzuki came along, but Tsuzuki’s depression makes this hard to see.

who gets surprised when they are given gifts?

Hisoka. Again, didn’t have a lot of people who cared about him until he died, and Tsuzuki’s very big on gift giving!

who is most likely to break down on the other and how does their S.O. attempt to calm them down?

The one doing the meltdown is almost always Tsuzuki. Hisoka’s gotten good at reassuring him, or just holding him until he stops crying. Tsuzuki used to wait until he could be alone to have a breakdown, but now that he and Hisoka live together, he can’t really do that anymore. Luckily, Hisoka is very understanding, and is able to sit with him until it passes.

who is most self conscious in public?

Hisoka. Physical contact in public between couples isn’t something often seen in Japan anyway, but especially not between men; this makes both of them kind of hyperaware of their body language when they’re out together. But Tsuzuki’s usually the one initiating contact, and Tsuzuki’s fairly shameless in the context of Japanese culture. He’s fine taking his shirt off, or getting naked to get in a hot spring, or playfully drunk-stripping, but Hisoka is very adamant about keeping his clothes on. So, Hisoka, overall.

who is more likely to apologize a million times for a tiny mistake?

Tsuzuki’s usually the apologizer in any given situation. He can laugh off his mistakes though, if they’re small, while Hisoka dwells on them because he strives to be perfect at whatever he’s doing.

who admits they’re scared only when they think their S.O. is asleep and how does the other react?

I simultaneously see both and neither of them doing this. Which is weird. Tsuzuki’s more likely to admit to being scared when they’re awake and talking to each other, but I can’t imagine Hisoka saying it at all. Either way, the other would just reassure them that they’ll be there to protect them. Probably pull the blankets up over them, cocoon themselves together.

who never thinks they’re good enough for the other?

They both do this. Hisoka wants to be Tsuzuki’s equal in strength and magic, and doesn’t want a repeat of what happened in Kyoto, so he’s working continually on getting stronger in the hopes of being ‘good enough’ to protect him. Tsuzuki sees himself as lower than dirt and can’t understand why anyone would ever want him, and thinks Hisoka deserves someone more stable. Hisoka also feels like he’s too immature and young for Tsuzuki, Tsuzuki feels like he’s too close to a breakdown at any given moment for Hisoka.
