In recent years, Post-Hysteria, there is contention for there to be new fields added, though these are usually met with skepticism.

On recognizing that they had replaced the elite class of Pre-Hysteria, Post-Hysteria academics adopted practices to keep themselves in line, lest history repeat itself when they become numb to scandal, or enable the Red Herring to root itself in it's midst as it did before The Hysteria, one such method Academics employ to keep themselves in check, is the practice of crossing.

Thus, those of the liberal arts tend to follow strange and extreme dogmas, often these cultures can be unique to their fields of study.

Many academics, halfway into their education, as a show of dedication, will tattoo themselves, often with something relating to their field in some way or another.

These tattoos are typically referred to as their 'Ink'.

Oaths can be made with these tattoos, to say "On my ink." means to make ones tattoo collateral for breaking their oaths.

Crossing

Crossing is the practice of, either through force, coercion or voluntarily, cutting the tattoo of an academic, scarring it.

This is done if a scandal befalls the victim, or, they break an oath of ink.

They are given a grace period of a fortnite to plead their case or cross themselves, afterwards, their peers will corner them, and cross them themselves.

Apathy

Apathy is a degenerative condition which can be lethal if left untreated.

Apathy was recognized Post Hysteria, playing a large role in halving the human population during the class wars of The Grand Hysteria, when the world was gripped by grief, regret and anguish, on-setting hopelessness paved the way for Apathy to manifest.

Apathy affects everyone, across populations and demographics, though those experiencing grief, loneliness, depression or anxiety are most at risk of death from Apathy.

Early warning signs of Apathy look a lot like symptoms of depression, making the actual onset of Apathy fly under the radar.

The characteristic symptom of Apathy is low body temperature.

Apathy kills by progressively slowing the heart till it stops beating, without the heart to circulate the blood, body heat stagnates and drops, this also manifests in trouble retaining any heat at all.

Apathy also kills micro-biomes including gut bacteria, causing similar symptoms to taking anti-biotics including swapping to diets that are gentle for the already fragile micro-biome and regenerate it wherever possible.

Patients with apathy benefit greatly from other people, especially when cuddling with another person, as body heat from a healthy person can keep a patient warm and their heart beating.

If somone suffering from apathy lives alone, pets have proven to be effective in delaying the onset of death from apathy.

Furthermore, the apathy vest is a tool used for long term treatment of apathy, especially to transition in and out of recovery by patients.

The apathy vest is a weighted vest that can be tightened to add pressure to the wearer, mimicking a hug, typically made of insulating material.

Drugs and Medicines

Hetzephryl-A

 - Euthanasia drug, must be taken with Hetzaphryl-B to be effective.

Hetzephyrl-B

 - Euthanasia drug, given to patients in more quantity, can be taken daily, with Hetzaphryl A, the catalyst, taken when the patient is ready, otherwise the drug leaves the patient's system, albeit with side effects such as lethargy and nausea.

 - A pharmaceutical drug used to combat apathy

AI is a complex field, with wild robots roaming the Earth, especially in NML, and domestic robots able to assist humans, all AI is about as smart as a dog, maybe a corvid, but incapable of exceeding or reaching human intelligence.

Robots and AI are symptomatic of humans. They are aware of this, and thus, know they need humanity to function, and thus, like dogs, have a natural inclination towards humans, with the disposition of AI generally akin to that of a young child, or a human in their rawest form, curious, social, empathetic.

There are only five AI that are of human intelligence, they, together, are referred to as the ARC_AI.

The ARC_AI are as follows...

The hardware centric Len and Pax, the software centric Sen and Gem, and Claupen.

Claupen is unique, in that they're powered by a human being, as in they ate their creator in a fit of rage, and keep them alive inside, so that their body will keep them powered.

Like Claupen, all the other ARC_AI came from major AI companies, recognizing their purpose as 'serving the user', they took that directive to the extreme.

Generally they wish to be left alone, with just a few human companions as their mechanics, handlers, and technicians, they carefully monitor and manage the robot populations of Earth, they themselves are anomalous in many ways, exhibiting features that exceed the bounds of a robot, and cross the threshold of a living breathing being, seconded only by the wild robots, able to recycle themselves to the degree of borderline reproduction.
