So I've been watching this whole DashCon thing from the sidelines, keeping my opinions to myself because I'm not an actual attendee. HOWEVER, after reading their whole fiasco with the WTNV, I've gotta say, I'm REALLY, REALLY GLAD WTNV got the fuck out of that mess. The whole thing is a disaster, and as someone who has helped conventions happen from planning to execution, I would not want my hands stained with the disorganization and unprofessional way this convention has displayed itself.
I'm also at awe that they have the audacity to BLAME the WTNV crew for bailing out. "With regards to today and Welcome to Night Vale, we don’t want to get into it, but we want to officially say that we did have the money for Night Vale, and a large majority of it was in cash. The remainder was available via PayPal, but unfortunately PayPal was malfunctioning and they were unwilling to wait."
Naw dude, you do NOT blame your guests for your inability to manage your convention's money in a timely manner. Let me repeat: YOU DO NOT BLAME YOUR GUESTS FOR YOUR OWN MISTAKES. Also, the extra "compensation" being an extra hour in this ball pit is insulting. I admit, if I lived closer I would've bought a ticket just to see WTNV, but if they canceled because of your disorganization AND you offered me an extra hour in that ball pit, I would be absolutely livid. I'm sure the extra day badge and seating in another concert would be acceptable to some, but I think a full refund would've been the more proper route - of course, I don't even think they can afford refunds at this point, never mind the whole $17k/$20k fiasco from last night. :/
As a huge fan of WTNV, I'm so glad they got out, but it's such a shame that they got screwed over. Personally I also find it fishy that they're offering a presale to next year's con with a deadline of July 15th (the con ends tomorrow), but heeey, that's their own thing. As a convention staffer who works behind the scenes, this whole thing is just an insulting mess.
