It's so weird when I receive proof that my perfectionist tendencies with cleaning aren't necessarily like, the norm, because my grandmother was definitely like this.
Just now my partner lovingly took my hands and told me he loves me and appreciates everything I do around the house—however, I use too many cleaning supplies. My goal of keeping everything perfectly clean is apparently in direct conflict with his goal, which is to save money.
Which was a very nice and cute way to say a critical thing, yes, but I don't know what to do with this information. If I can't smell the laundry detergent on my clothes after I wash them, they are not clean to me—and anyway, I only do laundry the way my grandmother taught me. I can only use the same towel, or the same jeans or hoodie once or twice before breaking out in metaphorical hives. The bedding needs to be washed every week or my nightmares get more vivid and terrifying, my skin is constantly crawling, etc etc. I need to sanitize things regularly, or I will never want to walk into the rooms that are dirty ever again, and I'll probably get depressed.
It's not that I'm afraid of germs, and it's not exactly a health-related obsessive thing (although dust makes my allergies go insane), it's more like the sensations of being around or touching or wearing not-clean things bother me to the point of severe anxiety. Just the sensory aspect of it.
I really hate that I can't contribute financially, because cleaning supplies and detergent and stuff are all things I 100% do not mind splurging on.
