My "fellow African"- Austin Merrill @austin_merrill lols in Limuru, Kenya, a week after quitting his job to focus on the Everyday Projects, which he co-founded with Peter Dicampo. Everyday Africa, the first of the Everyday Projects, began when Austin who's lived in Côte d'Ivoire and Peter who'd lived in Ghana, went on assignment in 2012 to cover the post war situation in Cote D'Ivoire. As men of conscience, they couldn't ignore the staggering evidence of hope, dignity and positivity which contradicted with the expected rhetoric of chaos and doom. They created the @everydayafrica account on Instagram to share the real story, not knowing that so many people all over the world could relate to the burden of misrepresentation and the urgent need for newer, truer stories. Just two days ago, the book "Everyday Africa " was launched in Nairobi to great applause. I am humbled to be a part of and a witness such a great movement, being one of the 30 contributors to the book. Africa is rising All our songs are coming back to us Dreams we forgot are sprouting up Like pubic hair on ordained heirs Africa is rising... again.
