Lillafüred. Palota Szálló Hotel "Palota" Hungary
Lillafured, Hungary 🇭🇺
📸 by travelersdy ✨
The cute little mountain town of Lillafured is located in the Bükk mountain region in Eastern Hungary, not too far from the city of Miskolc and Eger. Mostly known for being a tourist resort, the town has quite a bit to offer for visitors. Lillafured was built as a tourist resort in the 1890s by Count Bethlen, who envisioned a place where the wealthy could stay, play, and recuperate by the lake. Nestled into the forested Bükk Mountains and full of outdoor adventure and pretty scenery, the area was named for his niece, Erzsebet, nicknamed Lilla. The castle is probably the best-known picture of the small town. The renaissance castle first opened in 1930. Now it’s a hotel!

Hunguest Hotel Palota
Lillafured Palace Hotel (Hunguest Hotel Palota) is located in Lillafured, county of Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen, Hungary. Built in 1929 on the artificial Lake Hamori in the Bukk Mountains, the neo-renaissance castle has an eclectic style. The castle sits in a large park near caves, a hanging garden, the artificial Szinva Stream waterfall, a trout farm, and rock climbing. Although completed in 1929, the castle didn’t open until 1930. During the 30s, it became a popular place for high society and provided a venue for congresses and celebrities. During WWII, the hotel served as a military hospital for wounded Russian soldiers. After the war, the rights to manage the hotel transferred, and for the next 40 years, it was managed by the National Council of Trade, where people with special vouchers could stay there. In 1993, the hotel was purchased by Hunguest Hotels, who conducted a large-scale renovation, paneled all the rooms, and brought period pieces of furniture to decorate the palace. The three-star hotel has 131 rooms with a variety of guest room options. The hotel boasts a wine cellar, a lobby bar, the Hunyadi Restaurant, the Matthias Restaurant, two bowling lanes, a billiards area, a salon, a sports and fitness center, and event rooms for corporate functions or weddings.
