While staying at a friends house, Ramona, her cat, peeks around the corner, Feb. 7, 2016
Faerie weather
The fog crouched low as it crawled across Palomar Mountain. It lingered near the forest’s wood and stone. It slid into nearby valleys and ravines. Every few feet revealed something I couldn’t see before: sap dripping from trees’ branches, grass and bushes faded by winter, the charred bark of an old tree. This sort of atmosphere is what my mom calls faerie weather – when the fog is too thick to see through the trees but the cool temperatures and lack of rain beckon you to explore.

Spanish moss dangles from the branches of oak trees and drift in every passing breeze. Some places were particularly quiet, absent sound outside of the crunching leaves beneath my feet. Being here reminded me of the story of Cain and Able, when God called for Cain and convicted him of Ables murder saying, "The voice of your brother's blood cries to me from the ground."
