WIP Word Game
Rules: You will be given a word. Share one sentence/excerpt from your wip(s) that start with each letter of that word.
Thank you for the tag, @ataliagold! ❤️ The word given was ALMOND
These excerpts come from parts 7 and 8 (yet without titles) for the For What it's Worth series
A
“About time,” Robin drawls as Steve clocks back in. “I thought you were going to abandon me to spend the whole afternoon with your little buddy.” “Are you kidding? I’m not letting you take all the tips,” Steve retorts. “I netted five dollars from Mrs. Johnson earlier, and I’m getting my share.” “Oh yeah, you have a real way with the older ladies of Hawkins,” Robin says.
L
Listening to all of it laid out like that makes it sound worse, though. Steve had known he was injured, but he’d also been running on the power of adrenaline and the desire to not die via melted people monster (as Robin eloquently put it). Now, hearing what’s really wrong, he retroactively feels a little dizzy – or maybe that’s just the exhaustion, or the head injury, or the general everything catching up to him.
M
Mildly chastened, Steve and Robin sit back in their seats, but when Robin glances over again, she finds Steve smiling at her, as wide as his bruised and cut face will allow. He looks at her like she’s done something amazing. Like she’s great just for sitting there – existing.
O
“Okay, given what I had to work with, I think I did a perfectly fine job with the sink, thank you very much,” Eddie insists, all overblown offense as he lets Steve go past him into the bathroom. “How’s that for gratitude?”
N
Now, Steve is glad he’s not dead, don’t get him wrong. But holy shit, does it feel like he should be.
D
“Don’t ask,” Steve rasps, voice gone hoarse with panic. “Don’t ask. Don’t ask.” “Steve, why do you–” Eddie looks up again, his eyes meeting Steve’s bruised ones squarely, and Steve can see the moment it clicks. He can see the horror settle on Eddie’s face. “Steve.” Steve shakes his head, still trying to force words up past the hysteria clawing at his throat. “I can’t. Don’t ask, I can’t– I can’t–”
I have absolutely lost track of who's been tagged already, I'm sorry if I'm catching you twice (unless you want to play again!), but I will gently tag @paperbackribs @emchant3d @devondespresso @pearynice and @blushweddinggowns
Your word is SHINE!
