“It’s the end of the world.” Damon hyperbolised, his fingers wagging dramatically for emphasis before his index finger fell to a knickknack of interest in Elena’s room. In truth the object itself held no allure for him, but touching what belonged to her was as close as he could get to touching her so he made do. 

That, and his presence in her space seemed to irk her and he enjoyed seeing her all riled up. 

“Stefan’s biting off heads again.” An oversimplification, sure, but he was the one of the pair that had cycled through Stefan’s greatest hits and the Ripper era wasn’t one to be forgotten in a hurry. He also knew that worry was futile, concern for his wayward brother would do no good, action was what was needed and that’s why he a plan in motion. One that she wasn’t privy to, in the interest of her safety. 

For some reason love seemed to translate to the pair of them as let’s be complete imbeciles for one another and he couldn’t rightfully let her go rushing off and end up another name on his brother’s list.
