From tonight's storm over Ireland, the heatwave may well be at an end but what a spectacular show over the old church.

Song Review: String Cheese Incident - “Lightning Sky”

At six minutes, “Lightning Sky” is kind of like two songs.

First, there’s the String Cheese Incident harkening back to its acoustic beginnings on a number that features fiddle and acoustic guitars at the fore as it gallops along briskly on a steady drum pattern. Then, there’s a spacey, mid-song break that focuses on SCI’s jam bonafides.

Through it all is a spiritual journey voiced by bassist Keith Moseley, who remembers those he never knew.

Late at night when they come calling/ghost riders passing though/don’t be afraid/feel your power/and they’ll show you what to do, he sings on the final verse.

It heads home on the winds of a Michael Kang electric guitar solo that is certain to kill when this song gets to the stage.

So maybe “Lightning Sky” is three songs.

In any event, it’s the first to be released from SCI’s six months of writing and recording in early-2026.

“Stay tuned - there’s more on the horizon,” the band said.
