The Vault clan's motto "Diamonds in the rough" refers to the clan's mission to create a beautiful lair even in such an inhospitable place as the Shifting Expanse with the only beautiful things that can survive in it: gems.

A straight-A student their entire life, Aurora grew up under intense pressure from their upper-class parents to succeed. Unfortunately for them, Aurora was also an obsessive romantic who indulged in far too many fantasy novels, and abandoned a promising career as a Tempest Spire engineer to pursue an adventuring lifestyle.
After a series of dramatic scrapes throughout the Sea of A Thousand Currents, they wound up carving out a base in a cozy limestone cavern somewhere beneath the Scarred Wasteland. Currently, they are researching the mutated aquatic horrors that lurk in those depths, all while pursuing Mariana, their half-lover half-rival. It’s everything they ever dreamed of.

Anyways, a bit about these two. Rya is Empress of dragons at the time the books are set in, and Soul is her secretary and also, her life-long friend. Rya lives in the Grand Citadel of the dragons’ capital city, Dracora, and spends most of her days listening to her subjects, planning to help improve infrastructure, and giving her blessings to hunting parties. Soul is there to keep her on schedule, and to bring her up to speed on the latest happenings. She lives in the chambers next to the Empress’s, and is considered the dragon to know in the inner circles.Â
Catalysta convenes regularly with both of them for council meetings, and considers both her close friends.Â
