Frontal Lighting Research
Preferably for my frontal lighting I would use a black backdrop however I might use white to change the appearance of the images.
I like the look of the harsh lighting and there for will probably use a barn door lighting attachment. This is a one lighting set up so I will either use a barn door, soft box or beauty dish depending on if I am wanting a harsh look or a soft finished appearance.
I will be taking these images as head and shoulder shots however I personally like the look of the close cropped look with the frontal lighting.
Nanoscale device emits light as powerfully as an object 10,000 times its size

Conversations with the Photography Technicians Paul and Marcus.
A.V.C means I haven't been away from the photography department since I came back to college. I've been trying different lenses , ways of lighting in the studio, trying to solve lighting problems on briefs and generally just learning the names of equipment.
Equipment
I've learnt the portable lights are'nt called the thingy lights but - the flight kit
The outside lights are - the ranger kit and you charge it up by removing the bottom.
snoots - cone shaped covers for studio lighting , can be used for spotlight effect - which gets bigger the further you are aware
Honey Combs - there are 3 sizes - each giving a different width of concentration of light when use for rim lighting.
light meter - not using it is bad apparently
Beauty Dish - gets ooo nice lighting effect .
continous lighting kit - can be used in situations where you need more light but aren't able to use a flash.
10 - 20 mm - wide angle lens
telescopic is not the same as telephoto.
100 - 400 mm - stalker lens or one that can see quite far - not used it much yet but going to give it a go this week.
monopods - like a tripod but with one leg - good for times when you want some stability but need to be able to move around.
Lighting
I had a couple of conversations with paul about lighting for the idol dead shoot
Rim lighting - using honeycombs- which size you use depends on what width you want for the rim lighting - if shooting straight on position at the back and above facing down at a 45 degree angle - a couple of stops above your fill light.
If you're shooting from a downward angle you need to have the lighting lowerdown and pointing up at a 45 degree angle
using a spotlight- I wanted to know if it would be possible to light up part of a person quite well but leave a more ambient, subtle light for the rest of the image - using the snoot and a honey comb you can get quite a nice light unfortunately I wasn't able to try this during the actual shoot as we ran out of time.
