No, no, I feel you

-Licorice genuinely doesn't understand Brute's feelings and identity crisis but Brute still puts up with it because aside from picking on them for it sometimes or arguing that it's weird, Licorice doesn't actually try to change them.

-their biggest issue is the name issue. It eventually gets resolved when Brute points out Licorice Cookie is literally Licorice's race and if he can be called that then Brute can be called Choco Werehound Brute. That or pointing out cookies sometimes have absurdly long ass names ("Mottled Tropical Cocktail Cookie" anyone?) but they still have no problems using them for each other.

-if it's not that, then Licorice actually uses Brute's chosen name right in private but purposely fucks it up in public bc he's evil and so is dead naming someone, so shouldn't he do that to be more obviously evil? This one would drive Brute up a wall tho because the logic is just so ahhhhhhh. (They're working on it)

-falling in love? Licorice is incredibly dense. To the point this could be a conversation:

Brute: "Hey, if someone like... Had a crush on you and wanted to tell you, what would make you believe it?"

Licorice: "...weird question outta nowhere. Uh, I guess just saying it? Be straight forward?"

Brute: "Oh, really? Then, Licorice Cookie, I love you!"

Licorice: "Yeah! See? Just like that."

-Licorice genuinely enjoys sewing as a hobby so he ends up making all kinds of outfits for Brute. He still doesn't get the dresses thing, but they are kinda fun to design.

-Poison Mushroom third wheels their date nights a lot.

-Licorice got weirdly shy about things like sleeping next to Brute after they started dating despite him having treated Brute like his own personal mattress when camping in the woods for years. Brute genuinely doesn't understand this sudden change. (I love the idea that somewhere deep down, Licorice still knows all the strict social rules, customs and traditions of his village and kingdom so sometimes they come up outta nowhere. For example, respectable distance between potential partners before marriage.)

-Once he's over it, Licorice will be the clingiest person in private. He's got a reputation to uphold after all.

-Brute loves PDA. They always find ways hold hands and hug, cuddle, touch Licorice without making him too uncomfortable.

-Licorice has cat tolerance for PDA. If he wants the attention, he will go to Brute. If he does not, he will bite and scratch.
