Itâs a strange thing, to see herself through the eyes of another.
Her captain looks up at her as she should be, as she once was, a respected and regal goddess. Here, in her captainâs perspective, she can play pretend that her followers faith isnât wavering nor is she in pain struggling to maintain this ghostly form. This is a normal evening where one of her followers wishes for guidance, and Lady Ianite is good for it.
Capsizeâs nose crinkles in disgust, her eyes shift around the room to find the source of the issue, and it breaks her out of the illusion.
Captain. Capsizeâs eyes, wide and attentive, land back on her. Exhausted from her perilous journey, sheâs chosen to kneel before her in the church instead of resting, with her prize, an unreadable map, held closely to her heart. Youâve done well.
Sheâs given a firm nod in response, and Ianite cannot help herself, her captain is adorable. Her finger follows the course lines in netherbrick pretending the feel of smoothing out the stress in Capsizeâs face is the same. All it becomes is a reminder that sheâs not there, not entirely. Her finger lightly trails down the side of her face, then jaw, until her chin is between her thumb and pointer.
You will find what you are looking for, Attentive as always, Capsize tilts her head up in compensation for the lack of force in her goddess touch. Once more, Ianite canât help herself, she presses her lips to Capsizesâ own, and all she feels is the scorching bricks that make up her prison. And you will get back to me.

Summary:
Tucker asks a newly revived goddess a very stupid question.
Spark sits in a church. In a pew, hands clasped, with his head down. He does not pray, but reminisces.
He not only knows, but intimately understands the paths heâs taken to be where he is today; in a dream that feels far too real than any have in the past decade. The weight of the axe in his hand, heavy and with its dulled blade every hit to the rotted wood takes more and more strength out of him. The cold breeze coming in from the broken stained glass that he doesnât bother to avoid as he aims for a support beam.
Sparks sits in a church, and watches himself tear it to pieces.
In the pew directly across the aisle from his, sits a woman unfamiliar to him. He sits up and turns to look at her. Her posture screams of boredom, from the way her arm hangs on the back of the bench to her boot hitting the floor almost in rhythm to the carnage before them both. Her head hangs low, with her hair obscuring her facial features, one could almost assume she was asleep.
The coat she wears is familiar only because heâs seen it before, on her brother.
Heâd call out to her if heâd just remembered what her name was. Itâs a choking sensation, a word that sits heavy on his tongue that he knows wonât sound right if he makes the attempt to say it. He knows that he knew it, if only heâd justâŚ
Everythingâs gone quiet, from the tapping to the axe on wood, or glass, or stone. There is an immense heat which he cannot find the source for. He canât seem to find himself either. All thatâs left behind is a partially caved in roof and every decorative item denoting what this church was for in absolute ruin.
Spark turns to look back towards the woman, perhaps her tune has changed, but he canât. His vision of her is mostly concealed by his own form; axe held above his head, eyes closed, and his wings limp. What he can see of her is her hand now grasping the pew in-front of her own and her boots turned towards him and his fate.
He wonât dilute his own capabilities by regarding them as âevenly matchedâ. Spark moving out of the way of his blade, ignoring every chance for a fight head on, and hitting every cheap shot he could get. How could he consider them matched in ability?
Jordan can feel the sting in the cuts and stabs left by the dagger, it must have been dipped in either poison or harming, though lack of nausea makes him lean more towards a harming potion. He understands that heâd been told to bring his best, but this just feels like cheating.
He isnât sure who misses, as Spark goes for stab and Jordan goes for a slice. No surprise that Spark drops his dagger as Jordanâs sword goes through his right arm.
Jordanâs sword wedged between bone and muscle, and while the injury itself is grotesque, seeing âhisâ shocked face is worse somehow. They're at a standstill now, not out of strength but shock, he fears moving anymore will worsen the injury.
âYou can end this now, you know,â Biting his now bleeding lip too keep from screaming, Spark moves his arm down the blade and grasps the handle. âCall it.â
Spark does not. Heâs moved closer towards him, Jordan stands his ground and doesnât let the look of pure rage unnerve him. The other isnât wearing his own signature green shades, so every emotion is on full display for everyone to see, for him to see. His breath reeks of alcohol.
His hand over Jordanâs on the hilt, nails claw deeply into him causing him to loosen his grip in surprise, then boot meets abdomen as heâs kicked back soon after. Spark walks back a few feet away and Jordan has to look away as the sword gets removed from the wound.
âYou lost, man. Just,â Jordan looks back at Sparkâs right arm. It hangs bloody and limp by his side, thankfully mostly covers by his more-red-than-white sleeve, sword now in his left. He grabs to his own arm and presses down into the ghost sensation. âJust call it and get something for that.â
Thereâs people yellingâ screaming for them to rip the other to pieces, voices that distinctly sound like Mot and Tom. Heâs uncertain whether theyâre rooting for one of them or just bloodshed in general, respectably heâd like them both to shut it. Spark seems to share the thought as he swing his sword out of the obsidian arena towards them, his throw is too wide and he misses them, the act just spurs them on more.
Everyoneâs here watching, of course they are. Spark wanted to settle their issues as they would have before, but a purge just for them seemed excessive, and if Jordan really wanted to be honest with himself, he wanted the fight too. Itâs hard to garner anyoneâs facial reactions from where heâs stood, but itâs obvious that most are anxious and some excited. Itâs in this quick glance that he spots her.
Captain Capsize.
He hasnât seen her sinceâŚwell since she died. And here she is standing near the edge, away from any groups that have formed, with her right hand on her hip holding a very familiar pair of green shades. She waved at him with her left. She must have been late because he hadnât seen her when the fight had begun. She leans down ever so slightly and blows him a kissâŚ
Something feels wrong here. Something,
Thereâs movement in the corner of his eye, Spark making a run for his dagger that he dropped and was kicked away from both of them.

âWhat do you mean you donât remember your favorite dessert?â Sonja puts her spoon down, leaving her slice of cake untouched.
Capsize takes another spoonful of the red velvet slice in front of her and chews. She shrugs as she eats, forcing Sonja to sit there and wait for an explanation.
âI mean just that,â She forgoes the cake this time and coats her spoon entirely with pink frosting and heart shaped sprinkles. âLots of things I donât really know anymore. This is real good, Fox.â She covers her mouth as she talks.
âThank you, glad to know youâre a connoisseur of good taste.â Sonja leans forward, the wood countertop restricts her from getting any closer to the woman sat across from her. âBut there must be something?â
Capsize settles her spoon down on her plate, sits back putting her hand on her chin, and hums in thought.
âSpark makes these apple tarts thatââ
âNo!â
âNo?â
âNo. Ruxmor food does not count!â Sonjaâs very sure that if she checked any cookbook from this realm, historical or recent, sheâll find the recipe to apple tarts right after apple pie. Sheâs also sure that her quick shut down to Capsizes statement lies more with a particular person than the actual pastry itself.
Sheâs gone quiet. They both have. Oh Sonjaâs ruined the mood hasnât she? Capsize lets out a shaky sigh. Fuck, she has.
âI like your cakeâŚ?â She sounds uncertain.
âThat doesnât count either, you should have more to compare it to. A wide variety of options.â Itâs her turn to think, it really doesnât take her long to think of a solution. Especially, not from a problem as easy to fix as this one.
âWeâll figure out youâre favorite dessert!â
âWe?â
âYeah, means youâll have to come around more often.â Sonja doesnât wait for Capsizeâs response, as she takes her first bite from the cake slice. It is good, but she could definitely have done better.
Jordan overhears a conversation that he probably shouldnât.
But, you know what? He wonât feel guilty for listening in, if they wanted a private conversation, well then they shouldâve chosen a better spot to talk.
âIt was strange. Iâd sooner attribute the feeling to deja vu, than anything else. But, to even call it that sounds wrong.â Spark speaks slowly and calmly, but with an uncertainty in how to explain his current emotional phenomenon. âThe lady of this realm and that captain, being in a room alone with both of them fills me with dread.â
Oh great, just what Jordan wants to hear, gossip about himself.
âI will admit to you that I listened in on something I shouldnâtâŚâ Oh. Wow, he certainly feels called out right now. Sparkâs pause is dramatically long and Jordan leans against a tree, wishing heâd get to the point âThere are names that I call your mother. Names that I have given to her out of love and a sense of casualness, but those are solely reserved for her, and I will not speak them here. Please, understand that just because I have not said them, does not mean that they have not been said.â
Jordan racks his brain for any other name that he has called his lady other than âmâladyâ and âmy ladyâ and any other variant of that. He quickly comes up with nothing, other than confusion. He concludes that Spark must be growing senile, old age can corrode memories and he is not getting any younger. He misses quite a bit of the conversation lost in thought.
âYou really miss mother.â Itâs a fact. And Martha states it as such.
âI have many regrets. Being away from her? That is at the top of my list.â
