A weekend in Wellington
I loved exploring Wellington again at the beginning of the Autumn. I worked a couple of days from the office and then had Saturday to explore with my partner and also my brother who flew over from the UK on the Saturday night.
The first thing I wanted to find out when I knew I was coming over was 1). Is the Library bar still open (yes) and 2). do they still sell lemon meringue cocktails (yes!). So of course a visit and a delicious cocktail was on the cards. I had tried and failed to recreate this masterpiece over the years since I last had one, and now I’ve had a refresher I think I could give it a go!
It was really lovely to see my friend Liz, who showed us a vegan restaurant in Lyall Bay called the Botanist. We shared a delicious spread of food including an epic platter.
Dinner on Friday night was at Sal’s, actually a NZ-wide pizza chain selling New York inspired pizza. It was so good, definitely go with enough people (2-3 of you) to share one of the epic 18inch pizzas.

On Saturday we started out with a visit to Te Papa, learning all about Maori culture and history in New Zealand. It’s a really great museum and a must visit if you’re in the area.
After that we walked over to Mount Victoria to look for some Lord of the Rings locations and also take in the view. It’s a stunning lookout across the strangely shaped city.
It was hot - and climbing a hill is thirsty work - so we met Liz at Garage Project for a handful of delicious Wellington-brewed beers.
And we finished off the day with a planetarium show at Space Place. My poor jetlagged brother fell asleep half way through, which is a shame as it was really great (we saw Phantom of the Universe).

The Library Bar At The Leela Palace Is Mixing It Up With Gourmet Burgers
If you’ve ever been to the Library Bar at the Leela Palace you’ll know that it’s the perfect place for a little peace and quiet (also, a great date option for a bibliophile). Elegant and oozing with charm, the Library Bar is an instant favorite with guests who take a peek inside its doors.
However, apart from the artful cocktail, and of course, the books, you can also indulge in some scrumptious,…
