Summary: In season 6, shortly after the events of The Rain King, Mulder and Scully find themselves with some free time in a small town at the end of a case. Remaining chapters to follow later this week & early next week. Part of the 'Work of an Instant' series.
She’s used to this itinerancy, to short stays in towns and places she won’t see again. She’d grown accustomed to arrivals and departures as a child, moving from one naval base to another, accustomed to traveling light and finding her home in her family, not in a place. She’s realized recently that the same has begun to apply to her relationship with Mulder. Her relationship with him is the longest relationship of this intensity she’s ever had; romantic or not, it has outlasted her relationship with Daniel, or Ethan, or Jack, in both duration and personal significance.
