From my 2012 archive. I first came out to my school community a few years earlier when our pupil voice data told us 75% of our primary aged pupils heard/experienced bullying related to LGBT+ identities, whether or not they identified as LGBT+. As a teenager homophobic bullying by my peers and teachers at school along with societal prejudice very nearly finished me off;this was not happening to the children in my care- not on my watch. So I came out in order to my whole school community in January 2010 to be able to discuss the impact of bullying and prejudice as an authentic leader and role model. Everything changed in our school culture as a result and I’ve now taken my training package around the world. LGBT+ History Month: La Bella Rafaela by Tamara Łempicka, 1927, screenprint on paper. ⠀ ⠀ Tamara Łempicka (1898 - 1980) was a Polish painter and printmaker best known for her art deco portraits of American aristocrats. Łempicka was bisexual and her affairs with both men and women were conducted in ways that were considered scandalous in the early 20th century. In the 1920s, she became closely associated with lesbian and bisexual women in writing and artistic circles, among them Violet Trefusis, Vita Sackville-West, and Colette.
