E.M.P.T.I.?
Ok, color me intrigued.
Hi nonny! Thanks for asking about this story which is so dear to me! It’s been sitting in my folders for over two years, and it’s the reason I started writing to begin with. It’s basically a collection of all my head-canons condensed into a single story. Sounds like a lot, it probably is, but I like it :)
I’ve already posted a little bit about this in another ask, but here’s some more (again, this is from my first draft from two years ago that hasn’t seen any work so far):
Errors and Misconceptions in Pure-blood Theory and Ideology (E.M.P.T.I.)
"People must be held accountable," Hermione cried.
Harry looked sternly at Percy Weasley, who himself was looking at Interim-Minister Shacklebolt.
Shacklebolt picked up the list, glanced over towards the hallway, where a group of agitated Wizengamot members were probably frantically whispering amongst themselves.
"It is just not right. We can't let people get away with the crimes they have committed, on a technicality."
"Yet, you will have to admit that it's not a technicality. People cannot be faulted for complying with the law active at that time."
"That is true," Hermione conceded, and it was clear that she would be following up with a new argument. "We can, however, judge them for not complying with basic human rights. Going after Muggle-borns or 1st generation Half-bloods is just not right. Taking away their wands is just not right. Persecuting them, locking them away, stripping them off their rights in society is nothing that EVER should be allowed to be lawful!" At the last words suppressed fury made her voice catch in her throat, her chestnut hair framing her stubborn expression like a frizzy halo. "It's a matter of principle," she spat. "It's unfair to only hold the very few accountable who were acting on direct orders of Voldemort. That's the unfairness of the Magical Judicial System in a nutshell. Everyone has to be held accountable, not merely those closest to Voldemort."
Percy shifted nervously on the chair at Shacklebolt's desk. The quill in his hands was slightly shaking as he was taking notes for the protocol.
"This is a matter of how we want to move forward as a society. Do we turn a blind eye towards the underlying problem, that is the prejudice against Muggle-borns in general, and do we acknowledge that people like Fudge, not a Death Eater but blinded by Blood supremacy and magical ancestry, were the very enablers of Voldemort and the rift through society. We have to hold those accountable who never spoke up whenever they were mandated to enforce this law, to print that story, nevermind if it was right, nevermind if it was true. We have to hold those accountable who chose the easy way out, because those who didn't were punished—"
At her words, Harry flexed his right hand. Shacklebolt's eyes drifted over the skin of the back of his hand, and the faded pink letters that spelled "I must not tell lies".
