Lexias pardalis Origin: Indonesia Lexias pardalis, also known as the Archduke, exhibits a strong sexual dimorphism. The males are black with shimmering green-blue margins. This species is part of a large number of Southeast Asian butterflies with English “royal” names, such as Baron, Count and Knight, derived from the time when many of these countries were British colonies.
Archduke butterflies belong to genus Lexias (Nymphalidae). Most species of this genus occur commonly in many Asian forests.
