One thing that annoys me about the first ep of the Korean Leverage, is that Na Byul and Eui Sung worked together before the group was formed.
Like, I never needed it to be a one for one of the American show. But… I loved the fact that not only are we shown how amazing each person was in their roles, we were also told they always worked alone.
Which isn’t exactly true. Eliot had Moreau (and the us military, I guess), Sophie had… well, Sophie kind of had a few different peeps, and Parker had Archie. Nate had his dad, I guess, and IYS.
I’d say the only one who worked alone is Hardison, if we don’t count his little interweb friends.
The point being, is while they weren’t all truly lone wolves, by the point Nate runs across them they basically were. And their previous “partners/associates” were basically different versions of their roles. Eliot wasn’t running around with grifters, Parker wasn’t working with hackers, Sophie didn’t need a thief because she always saw the grift as a play to facilitate the stealing, and Alec had probably never even known about hitters.
So I guess, I just would have preferred a storyline of Na Byul and Eui Sung both trying to steal the same item, and causing issues for the other with their skills. Say Na Byul was in the process of getting through the lasers and Eui Sung noticed and decided to make things difficult for her. And Na Byul, realizing that someone is sabotaging her proceeds to steal the Buddha painting(?) and somehow escaping the traps that Eui Sung was laying in hopes of preventing her success.
I would have liked that more than they were already teamed up for a job and then he cut and ran. Because enemies to allies is fun, allies where one abandoned the other and then they are forced to be teammates again is meh. Maybe for a later storyline (I mean Leverage kind of did something like that), but not for our first episode introducing the characters. I want to like the characters not sit here sneering at Eui Sung the entire time.
Whatever, it’s not important but I’m finally rewatching the series and I had thoughts.
