Hi there! Sooo, erm, discussion time. Who do you think bought lot 37? Kevin? If so, why didn't he "use his possession" sooner? And why should he make Cecil save Dana? But if it isn't he who bought lot 37, who is it then? And what does he want to show him? (Sorry, that's a lot of questions, but I always loved your theory and meta stuff over at the strex blog.)
Hi, and thanks! ^^
I think that the Man in the Tan Jacket bought Lot 37. As far as we know, Kevin wasn’t in Night Vale until Parade Day, and his motivations don’t line up with wanting to save Dana (unless there’s some major behind-the-scenes conspiracy going on, which is always possible).
A lot of people theorize that Marcus Vanston did it, and while he certainly had the money, as far as we know there wasn’t a bidding war over Cecil or anything. He didn’t have to have gone for a large amount of money - it could have been anyone.
As for why it could have been TMITTJ, there are a few posts explaining it much better than I could - here is one of them.
ETA: Quick thing about the linked post - it mentions the paper that TMITTJ tries to give Cecil, and how it might have something to do with Lot 37 - I think that, based on what we now know about the upcoming novel, this is probably the King City paper and doesn’t have anything to do with Lot 37 (unless King City involves the Auction in some way - more likely it’s to do with where TMITTJ came from, under the ground).
ETA2: Sorry, I keep coming up with more on this, heh. I personally think TMITTJ bought Lot 37 because that’s very consistent with his behavior of intervening in life-or-death situations either using Night Vale citizens as pawns or enlisting them somehow to help him by bringing them over to his side, as we see with the Apache Tracker and Pamela Winchell.
