I can’t be the only one who thought @yg said “And you know them good girls is hard to find like [white] rappers and punchlines” in the song “SLAY” • But speaking of White rappers and terrible punchlines, I’m vexed. I’m really emotional when I think about how much non-Black artists get all the support and praise (and money) when using Black/Latinx culture as their aesthetics. That’s why Black women have to be twice as good at everything, because even when we work our butts off, it takes forever to get recognition, it takes forever for us to get a following, to generate income, it even be from our own people. But when a non-Black artist does the same thing, it’s worshiped, their work is revolutionary. I really be in awe at the overwhelming support they get for using our aesthetics for their art. And Im also hurt because I really be hyping everyone up in every way I can while being a student. Like I really be so happy when I see people being bold and creative and slaying. Where’s that same energy and support for Black creatives? • Honestly, it has me perplexed & when I say something about it I’m the “angry Black” woman, I’m “jealous”, I’m belittling their struggle as an artist, I’m causing division in the “ummah”, I’m not valid, “I don’t know what I’m talking about” and I’m dismissed. I really don’t care how I look, because I see it so frequently that I have to say something. This shouldn’t have to be said but of course I’m not referring to everyone individually, I’m talking about structurally. Structurally there’s a lack of enthusiasm and support when it comes to Black artist and our hustles. Hell, when it comes to most things. The “ummah” is silent about what’s happening in Sudan rn, what’s happened in Nigeria, DRC, Somalia, Kenya, all over the African continent...Silence...no support. Not now, but when? • • • • • #blackart #blackartists #rant #racism #systematicoppression #blackmuslims #blm #blackbloggers #blackfashionbloggers #muslimfashionbloggers #letstalkaboutit #letsbsaboutit #hiphop #blackartistry #whiteprivilege #socialissues #antiblackness #blacksupport #blackfashion 📍Location: @chicago (at Chicago, Illinois) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs_BTCQA6FJ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=px4l5ehmp30b
