agreeing to go to the reunion was a no brainer. as someone in the public eye, she knew she needed to save face, even if that meant walking into a place with a bunch of people who at the end of the day, saw her as one thing. a survivor of a plane crash. so she'd go, act like everything was fine with her family and her life. maybe even convince a couple extra old classmates to vote for her. this was marketing. she couldn't care less about pretending like she was excited to see people she couldn't even relate to anymore, but she could fake it well.
there couldn't be any surprises, either. or so she assumed, until she saw a fleck of ginger hair across the room. taissa would know that face anywhere and she almost stops in her tracks, heartbeat increasing. there was no way - van didn't care about any of this stuff. they hadn't even seen each other in decades, not after everything that had happened between them. it was the last thing she needed but she knew that all of the survivors would be grouped together for the rest of the night anyways. they'd have to talk. or at least say something.
unconsciously, fingers move up to fix hair, taking a deep breath. she just had to walk right up to them and ... what? act like it wasn't going to be awkward? walking up closer to van, she decides to throw a joke into the air, hoping that maybe that would help take away some tension, just in case. "you really missed us that much?" taissa knew that deep down she missed them, but she was never going to admit that. she wasn't going to admit that her life was falling apart, either.
