The pair had known each other for many years. Molly Hooper worked in the depths of St Barts hospital and Greg Lestrade as one, if not the best members of Scotland Yard as their Detective Inspector. They became friends long before Sherlock Holmes met John Watson, long before the story that everyone came to love.
Molly could never deny the fact that she had a lasting crush on Lestrade for nearly the entire time. He was handsome, funny, strong... everything you wanted a man to be! But she was too shy to ask him out and therefore loved from a distance. Her own history with relationships had never been great and the fear of messing another off, forced her to retreat from trying again
But, many years later and after the events of Reichenbach Fall, Sherlock’s return and near death and the Watson’s wedding, she discovered he felt the same and they decided that it was time they stop fooling themselves and began seeing each other. At first it was quite casual with occasional dates out, a few to Greg’s favourite pub. But soon grew more loving between then. Frequent lunch dates made it nicer too.
She knew his job would be taxing for them both and some days were harder. This was one of those day. From their usual texts throughout the day, Molly could tell he was struggling a lot. She decided to take half day and headed into town to get some bits to surprise him for that evening.
