Finally got to see this short docu by Les Blank and Maureen Gosling yersterday, at the Cinematek Library. Such a charming and aesthetical treat, that also has an important message of body positivism and empowerment of women. Exploring the experiences among different gap toothed women in the 70s with their appearance, this film makes it apparent how the female body (even our teeth!) has allways been turned into an object of fetishism and mystification by society. But as adressed by several of the women it portrays, we should strive to claim back the ownership of our bodies, and celebrate our diversities, rather then spend time and money correcting them (that's exactly what patriarchy wants you to do!😛) 🌬 ... I had a rather massive diastema (gap between my front teeth) as a child, but is was closed with braces to avoid complications with my underbite. Not that I am unhappy in any way with my smile today, but sometimes I wonder how it would look with a gap.
