talk about your rival love interest ocs.......
Oh Iād love to :D
The MAIN ones (as far as rivalry goes) are Rue/Amary and Geran/Fennel, but both their rivalries are pretty⦠Tame? Like theyāre mostly just like roommates that donāt get along. Out of the main cast the only relationship thatās a REAL rivalry as in actually on different sides, enemies to friends to lovers and all, is Daisy and Tulip. But since Tulip isnāt main cast she doesnāt get quite as much focus and in all honestly sheād probably be a bit of a discousey character lmao. So Iām just gonna focus on the first two for right now, Iāll talk about them together
These two relationships are intended to serve as mirrors to each other, sort of the same thing but flipped around. I mean, thereās the obvious, Amary and Geran are both heirs that think theyāre straight. Heirship is sort of a big theme I use for this story, to be an heir is to live up to something, Amary and Geran may be LITERALLY heirs but every character in the story is living up to SOMETHING in some way (A lot of the time thatās parents) but for these two heirship also comes with conformity, as in theyāre both pretty much extremely conforming to the roles theyāre expected to fit into even though neither of them are happy. But theyāre not expected to show that theyāre not happy.
Thatās where Rue and Fennel come in, theyāre characters that DONāT conform to this type of stuff, making their respective roommates reject them because of a combination of resentment for themselves and conditioning to believe their behavior is wrong. Amary is obsequious and has been taught to follows rules blindly, and because of this Rueās rebellious attitude and questioning of authority is seen as overly brash to her. Geran is convinced that he has to be strong and strong people canāt be emotional, because of this Fennelās openness with his feelings is taken as. Both Rue and Fennel are depicted as the ones in the right but they can also be extreme. Itās good to be open with your emotions but not good to let them consume you, you should rebel and question authority but certain rules, e.g. dark magic, are for your safety.
Rue and Fennel CONSTANTLY challenge their respective roommateās worldview and that threatens their entire identity, because all they have is the fact that theyāre heirs. And of course a big part of that is the fact that⦠Well, both the heirs in question are just gay. Basically Rue and Fennel pull Amary and Geran respectively out of their bubbles of expectation through force, intentionally or otherwise, and show them itās ok to be whoever you want to be. But still their acceptance of this is a journey, and their rejection of it is what manifests in a rivalry.
Step one for both Amary and Geran was realizing they were wrong about their roommates. For Amary, that was seeing how Rueās defiance of orders completely saved the day, how Rue isnāt brash, sheās incredibly bold and resilient. For Geran, it was learning about how Fennel actually feels (by literally being forced to empathize, thank Gallica) and learning that heās actually incredibly strong for bearing everything. Realizing they were wrong about ONE person is part one of realizing they were wrong about a lot of stuff, including themselves. But itās also an important first step because now they RESPECT their rival/love interest, they donāt see them as a nuisance, they fully acknowledge them and have more of an incentive to now prove themselves. Thatās what a rival should do!
Iāve been describing how theyāre similar, but aside from the same themes both the relationships are actually pretty different with very different beats to them. Amary and Rue are the protagonists, their arc is a lot more streamlined and clear, they have a very obvious phases that sort of chronicle what part of the story it is (Hating each other>Tolerating each other>Frienemies>Friends>āāGal palsāā>Officially dating). Meanwhile Geran and Fennel arenāt even in the main four, but theyāre still prominent characters that get a lot of focus, so the relationship progression is a bit messier, not from a narrative standpoint but from a highschool romance standpoint.
I hope I wasnāt too sloppy in my explanations, I wanted to be as brief as possible but also cram a lot of stuff in there lol. And I realize since Iām explaining two things at once (or rather, the mirror between two things) it may be confusing so donāt be afraid to ask any questions or comments or concerns or anything really lol. Anyway THANK YOU so much for asking because I love rambling about my ocs :)
i've been wondering this for a while but are you currently writing the story or do you just have ideas and scenes you know you're gonna include? it seems so thought out so either you're fantastic at planning or you're in it rn. basically what i'm saying is when does finn leak the oc story cause i'd read the shit out of it (obviously it's still in developement so no rush but your kids are so cute i love seeing them on my dash!!)
in all honesty⦠i just have the entire story planned out in my head, like the whole beginning middle and end, all the most important moments along the way (and some unimportant ones that i just think are neat). i wish i had the motivation to write it all down, but i need to mostly focus that energy on schoolwork for rn. i cant explain how i do this though, i guess i just hyperfixate on it enough! i think it may be because i broke it up into 18 different character arcs that would be played out kind of episodically? so i just had to map out in my head where the characters start and how they get to the finish line, and then i had to mentally map out theĀ āepisodesā that would happen along the way, and the b and c plots for said episodes (if they have any) and how the focus would shift from character to character each time. and then theres the more minor characters, that there are like, over 100 of, so i have to figure out how THEY get introduced and how they play into the MAIN arcs, so theyre mostly used to fill in theĀ āplot gapsā in my little mental map. it may sound hard bc there are so many, but since its all linear its not too bad, its just getting everyone from A to B. and its not like i did this over night!!! its taken months of lots of thinking
What is the point of getting sick if I dont have my same-sex best friend or mortal enemy here to begrudgingly take care of me in my passive state?
