#les mis 2018

Uh so I don’t think that’s right

I'm French and I like the Les Misérables BBC 2018 series.

Why? Because:

It follows the book's story,

It develops characters who aren't so much in the book,

It follows 19th century France 's and Paris' historical accuracy,

Fantastical actors (Oyelowo's eyes captured my heart),

It makes the characters more human, like actual normal humans,

It puts in sometimes puzzling, but most of time cool minor changes of the story.

Characters speak actual, real French, with an actual, impeccable French accent!

It SCREAMS Valvert from episode 1 to last one! Javert is so fucking hungry here.

And... of yeah: it had the most detailed and most fucking TRAUMATIC depiction of Fantine's fall into the gutter!!

No fucking other adaptation made me feel so shocked, so angry and so sorry for her (while they should have)!!

2018 BBC Les Mis has the best, and only actually good, adaptation of Fantine's story!

But I forgot you all don't give a shit about female characters or hate them as soon as they're written and played as actual human beings!

Putting in a few changes,

Not putting every single minor/secondary character (in a 6-episodes series!),

Making the characters more human, and so, more flawed,

Not following a modern, sugar-coated North-American adaptation of a 19th century French book (which already sugar-coats reality!),

Mixing the story with actual historical accuracy, whether it be idillyc or utterly gross, like really, sexually gross (which 19th century Paris definitely WAS!)

Sticking to actual reality,

Making something different from what you're used to (like sth sanitized, sugar and glitter-coated, not true to reality),

Making a few script choices you just don't like,

The spotlight NOT being on Les Twinks de l'ABC,

... is not "dogshit script".

You're just uncultured, immature, narrow-minded and ethno-centered.

Generally, if you know nothing about French culture or French history, your only right as for French novels about France and their adaptations is to shut the fuck up. ^^

Certainly not to take your glittered and sugared expectations and ethno-centered opinion as valid criticism.

If I had a nickel for everytime a Les Mis adaptation was released that would have been much better if the actors playing Jean Valjean and Javert were switched around, i'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twi-
