BRING ME THOSE CONTRACTS, PRONTO!
“Finally!” Cuphead exclaimed, grinning as he held up the soul contract of the Phantom Express. “We did it, Mugman!”
The younger was panting, breathing heavily as he nodded with a breathless smile. “Yeah… but what happens now?” His smile faded. “All the names are crossed off the list… should we really give the Devil these contracts?”
“We don’t have a choice,” Cuphead replied matter-of-factly, giving his brother a light shove. “Our time’s almost up. We have to hurry.”
Mugman, with a worried expression, followed Cuphead reluctantly. Soon enough, they reached the casino once more, but the Devil was nowhere to be seen.
Mugman’s brow furrowed slightly in confusion. “Uh… should we just leave the contracts here, or…?”
“I’ll take ‘em from here, boys.”
The brothers whirled around to see King Dice smirking down at them. Mugman gasped sharply, but Cuphead remained calm, even allowing a smile to spread across his face.
“Where’s the Devil?” he asked semi-calmly, raising an eyebrow. “We want to give them to him directly.”
Dice let out an amused chuckle. “Oh, ‘cause you don’t trust his right-hand man? C’mon, cupfaces, gimme them contracts.” He made a grab for them, but Cuphead quickly stepped back.
“No.”
Dice crossed his arms. “No?”
“No,” Cuphead repeated, staying strong although Mugman was trembling beside him. “Never!”
“Hm…” Dice tapped his chin thoughtfully, looking down at the boys. “Just as I suspected. Hi-de-ho! This’ll be fun!” He clapped his hands, then in one swift motion, scooped up both Cuphead and Mugman into his arms.
The latter shrieked, squirming in the king’s grip. “Hey! Hey! Wait a sec—“
“Too late, Mugboy.” Dice quite rudely tossed Cuphead aside and into a cage, snapping his fingers to lock it effortlessly. “Now, Cupface, you’ve made it this far with Mugboy, haven’t ya? How ya gonna cope with watchin’ him bein’ tortured, unable to do anything ‘bout it?”
Mugman’s face turned white. “T-t-tortured?”
“Let him go!” Cuphead shouted angrily, pounding on the bars.
It was no use. Dice’s cage was far too strong for Cuphead to escape. The king grinned down at Mugman, lifting up his left arm with one hand and tickling his armpit with the other.
Instantly, Mugman yelped, squirming as he tried to free himself from King Dice’s tormenting fingers. He burst into laughter right away, unable to hold it back.
“M-Mihihihister!” Mugman spluttered, trying desperately to pull his arm down with no luck. Dice was far too strong. “Stohohop ihihihihit!”
“Mm, but why?” Dice taunted, a smirk coming across his face. “Ya ain’t seein’ the boss just yet. I’m gonna have ma fun wit’ you first… aw, what a ticklish li’l mug y’are!”
Mugman was in hysterics at this point. King Dice’s hands were driving him insane, but he should’ve known it would get even worse. The Devil’s right-hand man soon moved his skillful fingers down to Mugman’s ultra-sensitive belly, causing the blue mug to shriek and kick his legs out instinctively, almost hitting Dice in the chest and only missing by a millimeter.
“DIHIHIHIHICE!” Mugman cried out, tears streaming from his face as he tried to escape without making any progress. “STAHAHAHAHAP!”
“HEY!” Cuphead finally spoke up from where he’d been trapped this whole time. “I’m the one with the contracts!”
The king turned around, his fingers slowing to a stop, causing a loud gasp of relief to sound from the blue mug. “Ya want in on this, Cupface?” He grinned, letting Mugman go and shoving him to the side. “Fine, but don’t say I didn’t warn ya!” With a snap of his fingers, the cage door swung open.
Cuphead’s eyes went wide with anxiousness for a split second before narrowing again. He didn’t want to lose his confidence — not yet. Protectively, he stepped in front of his brother, crossing his arms as he looked up at Dice. “Bring it on.” He flicked his pointer finger up at the king, causing a string of bullets to fly from it.
King Dice was taken by surprise, but he managed to dodge the shots. An annoyed scoff escaped his lips. “So that’s how you’ve been beatin’ everyone, hm? Thanks for showin’ me your magic, but there’s only room for one magician here.” With a snap of his fingers, Cuphead and Mugman’s gloves had disappeared.
Shocked, the cups stared at each other in horror before their gazes moved back up to the king, who was chuckling lightly. “What now, boys? You’re gonna have to gimme the contracts sooner or later… preferably sooner.” He scooped up Cuphead, casually beginning to tickle him all over, still acting as if nothing out of the ordinary was happening. “Or did you want me to get the boss? I’m sure he’d be tickled to see the two of you!”
Cuphead had tried to hold back his laughter, but the genuine yelp of surprise from being picked up and tickled had made that impossible. His laugh was loud and boisterous as he tried to shove the king’s hands away.
It was no use. As soon as King Dice’s fingers scribbled underneath Cuphead’s armpit, it was all over. A shriek left the red cup’s mouth as he lost his grip on the contracts, which fell to the floor.
Instantly, Dice tossed Cuphead aside, scooping up the papers with a wide grin. “See? Told ya I’d get ‘em.” He winked, backing away from the boys as he held the contracts close to his chest. “Ya put up a good fight, I’ll give ya that. Oh!” With another snap of his fingers, he pulled the two pairs of gloves out of his pockets. “Here ya go. Don’t tell the boss.” He chuckled, then turned around with a casual wave, walking away.
Cuphead, panting, immediately grabbed his gloves, putting them on as quickly as he could. But it was too late — Dice was gone. A groan left his mouth.
“This is all my fault…”
“Yeah! It always has been!” Mugman agreed instantly, crossing his arms. For a moment, he looked annoyed, but ended up simply sighing again. “But we’ll figure it out. We always do.”
