every time I watch s15 I become more and more convinced that leeās bar just isnāt real. like that the entire thing is just a setup, a construct put together (by chuck or heaven or something) in-universe to serve a dual purpose - a) to draw him away from casā return to the bunker and subsequent efforts to keep a dying sam alive alongside eileen, and b) toĀ āteach dean a lessonā, so to speak - kind of like in changing channels when gabriel wanted them toĀ āplay their rolesā.Ā
the El Sol sign in the cold open. the flirty waitress who dean doesnāt have to commit to flirting back with.Ā theĀ ātexas impalasā sign in the bar. the fact that the bar is called āSwayzeāsā.Ā LEE??? thereāsĀ obviously speculation behind that one, and as appealing as that does sound, it just doesnāt quite fit right -itās too convenient. dean hasnāt seen him in fifteen years, why should he suddenly crop back up with a country-themed karaoke bar? when deanās working a case alone?Ā when heāsĀ ācoincidentallyā out of reach of the bunker, specifically because the first thing heās asked to do upon entry of leeās bar is put his phone in a basket. cas calls over and over about samās worsening condition, and dean canāt be reached - heās too busy witnessing his own ideal future displayed out in front of him, eerily similar to the one michael traps him in in season 14.Ā
Here we have a man from deanās past, a realĀ manās man whoās successfully left the life of hunting (āAw, come on, whoās gonna kill the bad guys?āĀ āSomebody elseā) and now honestly and unapolagetically owns a country karaoke bar. this is exactly how dean wants to see himself. but itās also this fucked upĀ ālessonā about how you can never really leave, because itās supposed to be this huge miracle that lee successfully left hunting, something thatās too good to be true, and of course, it is. dean spends asking half the episode asking lee if he regrets leaving the life, and lee enthusiastically tells him how wonderful it is, only to end up being the villain of the week and then dying at deanās own hand. the whole thing just reeks of a divine-intervention setup - sort of like 5x04 or the bar in michael!deanās head, and the hard truth is that lee had probably been long dead by the time this all happened.
āI mean I thought you wereā¦ā āDead?ā āYeah, well, thatās usually how this ends, isnāt it?ā ā...yeahā.Ā
