every time I watch s15 I become more and more convinced that leeâs bar just isnât real. like that the entire thing is just a setup, a construct put together (by chuck or heaven or something) in-universe to serve a dual purpose - a) to draw him away from casâ return to the bunker and subsequent efforts to keep a dying sam alive alongside eileen, and b) to âteach dean a lessonâ, so to speak - kind of like in changing channels when gabriel wanted them to âplay their rolesâ.Â
the El Sol sign in the cold open. the flirty waitress who dean doesnât have to commit to flirting back with. the âtexas impalasâ sign in the bar. the fact that the bar is called âSwayzeâsâ. LEE??? thereâs obviously speculation behind that one, and as appealing as that does sound, it just doesnât quite fit right -itâs too convenient. dean hasnât seen him in fifteen years, why should he suddenly crop back up with a country-themed karaoke bar? when deanâs working a case alone? when heâs âcoincidentallyâ out of reach of the bunker, specifically because the first thing heâs asked to do upon entry of leeâs bar is put his phone in a basket. cas calls over and over about samâs worsening condition, and dean canât be reached - heâs too busy witnessing his own ideal future displayed out in front of him, eerily similar to the one michael traps him in in season 14.Â
Here we have a man from deanâs past, a real manâs man whoâs successfully left the life of hunting (âAw, come on, whoâs gonna kill the bad guys?â âSomebody elseâ) and now honestly and unapolagetically owns a country karaoke bar. this is exactly how dean wants to see himself. but itâs also this fucked up âlessonâ about how you can never really leave, because itâs supposed to be this huge miracle that lee successfully left hunting, something thatâs too good to be true, and of course, it is. dean spends asking half the episode asking lee if he regrets leaving the life, and lee enthusiastically tells him how wonderful it is, only to end up being the villain of the week and then dying at deanâs own hand. the whole thing just reeks of a divine-intervention setup - sort of like 5x04 or the bar in michael!deanâs head, and the hard truth is that lee had probably been long dead by the time this all happened.
âI mean I thought you wereâŚâ âDead?â âYeah, well, thatâs usually how this ends, isnât it?â â...yeahâ.Â
