lemme just say that the most baffling thing about "reviews" coming from fans who favor DMC DON'T do a good job understanding the story.
like i GET it you don't like this iteration but
not liking it =/= it's a review
i LOVE the reboot and I can point out my own criticisms with regards to its story
(sorry can't say about gameplay coz I don't have the game)
yet (and I can't believe it took me this long) these "reviews" are equating their rose-colored glasses, nostalgia and preferences as if it's the ONLY basis for their reviews!
THIS is particularly a flaw in their review when they keep pointing out reboot Dante's personality and kept highlighting ONLY when he's swearing, and NEVER fully shows the context to even those situations.... And says he's always mean.
Really?! So he's mean in those moments with Kat after their initial meeting? He's mean when he's listening to his twin brother regarding the demons?
He's "mean" 😨 as these reviewers clutch their pearls and try to tell their church that this reboot has done something "mean" for existing, and that's the only thing to justify their "reviews"
lastly it's like these "reviewers" are suddenly refusing to acknowledge the most basic of storyline tropes and just say "it's so cliche" "I don't like it..." But flip around when cliches happen to their favorite DMC. So suddenly their skills in pointing out story tropes turns on when it's their fave game, but couldn't do that and do a proper criticism on something they don't like.
You know, it's quite simple: if you don't like it and can't make a proper review/critique of it because of your own biases, just don't do a review of it.
Tumblr don’t do this to me man I worked so hard on dat shit show up in the tags 🔫
I’m really over people trying to give shawn a pass every time he does or says something stupid....we get it he’s pretty but like his looks can’t let him get away with everything
Some people need to take off their rose-colored glasses and realize that lately he only interacts when he fucks up or wants something. Oof, I can’t wait for the indirects and long ass posts about leaving the fandom if you can’t “accept” Shawn.
So I just kinda devised an entire film plot and trailer in my head based off a joke I heard off a podcast, and soon it spiralled into idealizing orchestral arrangements of two songs for the official soundtrack.
From a comedy podcast bit.
Is this why book adaptations happen?

I’m just gonna give multiple kudos to The Road to El Dorado (2000), under the cut yo.
- Every character had their motivations and flaws, and though it’s hard for me to accept (and keep quiet about when watching it to my sister’s annoyance) those flaws made the film substantially nice in quality. I’d rather prefer that than bland characters, for those kinds make little to no impact on the audience.
- While I’m at it, Chel’s spunk is amazing. She makes an absolute joyous supportive character for Tulio and Miguel, and good on them directors for giving her a balance for her sense of individuality and romance interest (though I will say I wasn’t the most chill with how those two started getting together like yooo you get what I meant right). She’s this fun-loving and yet determined character who’s definitely on my list of well-written female characters.
- The dynamic between Tulio and Miguel is charming and funny (and a little on the :) side but heyo im not gonna be too informal here), and I think that made the tone shift very well when they began to drift apart. The divisive aspect of ‘adventure’ and ‘riches’ that set the two apart were dfinitely a good choice, and I find it kinda funny as well as praiseworthy that this aspect left unchanged until the very end of the film.
- They got Elton John nice mate very nice very nice indeed.
- If the directors were walking on hot stones trying to make a statement about church versus state, then well done to the two/three of them for nailing it pretty well. I could see the bias with how they portrayed the high priest, but yo, everything’s got a bias, but I do think they made effort to make both sides seen as reasonable.
- That thing about how humans are vile and all? Nice. Cool. Understandable. Thanks High Priest, but positivity and non-muderous tendencies win.
- Thank you directors for making that little thing against the one-pretty-lady-gets-in-between-two-close-friends-and-thus-shouldn’t-ever-be-trusted cliche. Thanks for turning tht trope into something pretty nice at the end. (personal opinion that Chel, Tulio, and Miguel end up in a happy stable respectful poly relationship)
- CGI animating for a few assets (barrels, ocean, gold, etc.) seemed to have worked pretty well. Nice job melding 2D and 3D animations together.
- All the colour palette choices for about every scene and all the background design and all the Aztec-like architecture was wonderful. Good work, y’all! (I think it was Aztec? I may be definitely wrong. But still, I bet there was research into that kinda architecture for the film.)
Kudos kudos, great job Dreamworks!
(And while I’m at it, here’s my Bitcoin that the Shrek series was actually pretty good, Guardians and Dragon except for the new installment I haven’t seen and can make a judgement for yet, just yeah, they’re a good studio. Only holdup I have for them is the bee. The ding-dang bee. That’s it for me. Madagascar wasn’t too bad, but it’s better than the bee.)
(Also am I just being pessimistic when I think that they’re probably gonna get caught by the Spanish guy that I forgot the name of?)
