I am at least 99.999% certain the question has been asked in the years you've been livebloggin FMA, but anyway: Roy, Hawkes and Hughes. What's their drink poison of choice?
I don't know if I ever like, sat down and answered this, but I've definitely sprinkled it here and there. I have two answers for each, given we have The Stew, which attempts to reasonably fit the intended time period and canon happenings outside of distinct choices. FMA 03 ITSELF is not very historically compliant, and its Europe is fake, so it gives me some latitude, but, the flavor. And then there's Coffee, which is my trash AU that all spiraled off a joke and now I'm emotionally invested, the location of which is an amalgamation of three cities nearby. So, like, availability varies.
PLEASE NOTE LEM IS ONLY THROUGH EPISODE 19 AND I AM ONLY THROUGH EPISODE 33 OF FMA 03. PLEASE DO NOT SPOIL EITHER OF US.
OKAY
Hughes:
In the Stew, I think he's reasonably unpicky as far as what he WILL drink, and in-canon we see a few parties where there's wine on the table, but I actually think he'd really appreciate rakia, which mostly in the US you can only find as Slivovitz, but is a really good fruit brandy thing that you can find in all kinds of flavors in the Balkan regions, and which I know of because in the US it's mostly Jews and Eastern European Immigrants who drink it, and then when I visited Croatia, they just had an AMAZING selection. Anyway, it's strong, it's a bit sweet, and it fits with all my personal feeling about Hughes. He'd love it.
In Coffee, he is getting the biggest, fruitest, banana-dolphin-havingest drinks on the menu. "Oh look, this one gets set on fire! This comes in a fishbowl!" type behavior. On of my favorite things about Hughes, and a space that's really fun for me to move into, in the way that you pick spaces canon gives you when you're playing with a character, is that Hughes is not at all unmanly, but he like. Does not give a fuck. He's making lunches for Elicia (and Gracia!), he's wearing floral kitten shirts, he's telling his friends he loves them. He's ordering drinks like, "ooooh, can I please get the Princess' Delight?" and not batting an eye.
Hawkeye:
In the Stew, she gets small beer and drinks it slowly, or every once in a great while, some whiskey. She's not really a girl who gets drunk, because that means she has no control over the situation and that's not a position she likes to be in. All paired with the fact that Roy loves to occasionally obliterate himself because something happened or nothing happened it all leads to the same place when he wakes up on that side of the bed, I think she tries to stay sober.
Coffee Hawkeye is learning, badly and slowly, to be less cautious and on the lookout for any concerning signs at any moment. She still prefers like, Coors, and she still isn't god's biggest drinker, but she's more likely to have a couple beers as they hang out in Hughes' backyard versus wondering if this is the time that Roy really does it.
Roy:
The Stew, pretty much anything if he's in a mood, but I do have him specifically, unless he's in the mood to destroy himself, which is like, not never, avoid scotch. Because! As all sane people do, I went frame by frame to figure out what he was drinking when he almost shot himself, and it was Glenlivet. So it brings up a particular thought in his mind. I do think he likes brandy, as it's solid, it's aged but not really like scotch at all, and it's the kind of thing you can drink casually or be unbearable about.
In Coffee, I think he does like brandy and mostly he is unbearable about it ahaha. He likes it as a drink but in a way that is a lot about the art of it. he won't drink it shitty, mostly because at the point we meet him in Coffee, he has spent years trying to piece himself back together and getting drunk isn't really the move a lot of the time. Annoying, and just another thing he has to either do or not do to keep himself on the rails, but there we are. I do think he likes wine in a more casual sense, though, much like with he and coffee, he can still unbearable about it. But he drinks it more commonly and in my head he opens a bottle on Monday and has a small glass every night with dinner. He and Hawkeye have designated nights they make dinner, and he never tries to pair with her, because there's no pairing with "tacos and cheeseburger mac"
THANKS THIS WAS FUN TO DO
