So, uh, last sketch for this week and it’s of easily one of the most ill-advised moments in the entire NaCl D&D series. We came across a tavern on our way to find Edan’s soul, one that was completely empty except for one person--a man in a very fancy outfit wearing a plague doctor mask. He gave us some information on a monster we’d seen on the way through, as well as offered to sell/trade us some weapons to “help” with fighting it. They weren’t horrible weapons, but none of us really needed any of them, but the man offered to make a deal that we could get a few of the weapons if we just took a gem with us and threw it somewhere in the world we came from.
We were all set to refuse (though our bard Gineye seemed to be considering the offer) when our warlock Zareem agreed on the deal. To say the rest of the party was less than happy is an understatement, especially OOC when we discovered the mark that had appeared on Zareem’s back in the wake of the handshake was one of Vecna’s holy symbols. So, this is most certainly going to come back and bite us all in the butt at some point. Yayyyyyyyyyyy.

Welp, last picture I have done (at least for a while or until I get new things to draw), that being a large group-shot of the whole team. Yeah the bit at the bottom’s a bit off-center, but at some point I’ll probably color this one, so I have time to change it XD
So, left to right we have Zareem, our broody, chaotic-neutral Aasimar warlock; Lilistra Skaas, our sweet yet tough half-orc Storm Herald barbarian; Lei Lightshell, our Tortle Vengance paladin; Zuradar Felborn, our Tiefling ranger/rogue (complete with the ruby containing the owlbear he wants to tame); Gineye, our Human bard/fighter, and down in front my own halfling bard, Jemima Appleblossom. We may be a ragtag group of misfits, but it’s becoming a nice, tight-knit group as time goes on. XD
Two more pictures from this weeks NaCl D&D episode, and since they go together I figure I’d put them up at the same time. Part of our mission sent us to the town of Crance to report the findings from our investigation to a contact there, but unfortunately we were not actually told what to look for with this contact. So, we stopped in at the local tavern to ask around for information that might lead us to whomever we were supposed to meet.Â
Whereupon our tiefling ranger Zuradar decided to walk up to the bar and ask for the strongest thing they had, which turned out to be a drink they called Dragon’s Breath which made him literally belch fire. Thankfully the barkeep forcibly turned him around before he set the bar on fire... though he has expressed the desire to go back and get a few more bottles for the road.
While this was going on, our human bard/fighter Gineye was talking around to the patrons of the tavern and of course, one of the people he spoke to turned out to be a prostitute whom he very quickly noped away from. That did not, however, stop a very drunk Zuradar from wandering over to try propositioning her as well, requiring Jemima to go over and remove him (and apologize to the lady for interrupting her business.)
Also featuring our DM dying a little from regret in the background.
At this point, the phrase “I grab the halfling” seems to be a knee-jerk response to any situation involving the currently-deceased NPC Edan in any capacity. It’s also a very bad sign when it turns into the entire party gathering up to grab her, but that was exactly what happened in our last session. The larger sketch took quite a while, mostly due to getting posing and expressions right. Lillistra, our half-orc barbarian is (on the whole) more concerned about her small friend than the orc who’s in the process of dragging Edan’s doppelganger “Ivan” away. Lei Lightshell and Zuradar Felborn are both more focused on the orc, but are doing their share to keep her from running across the room. And Zareem looks more upset that she’s interfering with him talking to the orc himself, trying to keep her still as if she’s a bratty child.
But, of course, her rage vanishes when the orc says that one very important thing, that Edan is in a “weakened state,” but not actually dead. You’ve certainly got Jemima’s attention, sir, well done.

With that out of the way, holy CRAP was this episode a trip and a half and I’ve sat on these pictures for a week and I thought I was going to go insane with having to keep this a secret. But the wait is finally over and I can share my art with you! (or some of it, I’ll post more later :3)
As those who have been following know, my halfling bard Jemima got rather attached to Edan, the NPC druid who helped our party a lot, and was somewhat extremely distraught when he sacrificed himself to save the town they were staying in. This grief was somewhat mitigated by her being gifted some of his gear from the local god of slaughter, Bob, as well as being sent on a quest out of the city to bring a sealed package and letter to a town several days journey away.
Along the way they were tasked with investigating a series of grisly murders that happened in the town of Glens about halfway to their destination. A cleric they had encountered en route had been chasing a necromancer who had fled from the town with all the murders, and the party learned that there was another whom the cleric’s brother had been chasing as well. So, after having dealt with the first necromancer, the party went on to Glens to search for the other. As they explored the town, they heard rumors of a terrifying bounty hunter searching for the same target as well, and as they went to meet up in the center of town, whom should they encounter but an enormous barbarian with a terrifying axe who seemed to be set on killing them all.
The fight was fierce and intense, with the barbarian shrugging off most damage the party could do to him—save for Jemima’s Vicious Mockery cantrip. After the third or so time her words had cut home, the barbarian attacked her instead of the more melee-focused fighters, sending her flying across the square but leaving himself open for our tortle paladin, Lei, to get close and grapple him. Then, our other bard/fighter Gineye rushed in with a bolt of petrification he’d stashed away and stabbed it into the incapacitated barbarian’s side, turning him into a massive statue. The threat over, Gineye pulled back the man’s hood to reveal a shockingly familiar face: that of Edan the druid, though his hair had changed from a light gold to a dark brown, and somehow he was far larger than he had been before.
And Jemima promptly lost it and had to be restrained by Zuradar, our tiefling ranger before she could fling herself at the stone form of the man she’d considered a mentor, friend and was probably crushing on a little, let’s be honest, but she won’t even admit that to herself let alone anyone else

Our Tortle paladin may have lost his shell (very long story involving a series of failed death saves and some weird magic) but that doesn’t mean he’s not still useful! Especially as a night light/headlight while traveling through a dark, highly magical forest (courtesy of our warlock’s Light spell.)
This is the first time I’ve done a full-body sketch of Lei since he lost his shell and I kinda like how it came out. I know he’s technically a softshell turtle at this point and should probably have a funny looking head, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. So instead I just tried to make him vaguely turtle-y, and looked at some references of Krogans from Mass Effect to get a properly expressive mouth . ^^;;;
Outfit wise, I wanted to have a bit of a blend of western medieval and feudal Japanese flavor, with the chainmail and padded shirt/pants, but with a Japanese style tunic over top (with a turtle shell design on it :3) and Samurai-styled boots/greaves. I think I forgot his tail (oops) but otherwise I’m pretty okay with the design!
