Weāre ringing in the weekend with good voting news out of Wisconsin! š³š
āāIn December, the Wisconsin Supreme Court struck down the stateās legislative maps and blocked them from being used in any future elections. But this week, Governor Tony Evers signed new maps into law that create fairer legislative districts for the state.
Partisan gerrymandering is voter suppression. Wisconsinās new districts are a voting rights win ā which is ALWAYS a reason to celebrate! š

The Democratsā latest lawsuit alleged the lines drawn by Republicans were unconstitutional because not all of the districts were contiguous.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) ā Wisconsin Democrats are inching closer toĀ overturning Republican-drawn legislative mapsĀ that the GOP has used over the past 13 years to grow their majorities and advance their agenda.
At issue in battleground Wisconsin are theĀ boundariesĀ for state Assembly and Senate districts in a purple state where Republicans have held a firm grip on control of the Legislature even as Democrats have notchedĀ significant statewide wins.
Republicans drew the lines in 2011 and Democratic court challenges have since failed to overturn them, until now. Republican maps adopted in 2022 by the conservative-controlled Wisconsin Supreme Court used the 2011 map as a template and kept largely the same lines in place.
The current district lines, which disproportionately favor Republicans, shored up the state legislatureās GOP majority in the 2022 election.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court has ordered new legislative maps ahead of the 2024 election, ruling that the current GOP-drawn lines are unconstitutional.
The 4-3Ā ruling, issued Friday, determined that the current maps do not adhere to the state constitutionās requirement of ācontiguous territoriesā in legislative districts.
āAt least 50 of 99 assembly districts and at least 20 of 33 senate districts violate this mandate, rendering them unconstitutional,ā the court wrote.
The current districts are based on heavily gerrymandered boundary lines drawn by a GOP-controlled government in 2011. The maps helped shore up the state legislatureās Republican majority in the 2022 election. Wisconsin Republicans currentlyĀ hold a 64-35 majority in the Assembly and a 22-11 supermajority in the state Senate.
