Thoughts on 4x07Â âDown the rabbit holeâ
I have to be honest and say that I donât know what happened to me with this chapter because I have mixed feelings, more than in other chapters. I always try to see the good in everything, and with this season I swear I'm trying, but there are things that I canât connect with, mostly with how the writers handle the adaptation. But letâs go with it.
I watched the episode only once and without subtitles so sorry if I get to misinterpret something. I liked the chapter partly, Sophie did an excellent job and I love seeing her as Bree. I also have to say (and I know it's an unpopular opinion) that I also liked Roger's participation (kind of).Â
Another unpopular opinion: i find great that for once the fans of Roger and Brianna have a whole chapter for them, since they always have bits and pieces of them in some chapter. Donât get me wrong, I love seeing Jamie & Claire and got hooked with the series because of them, but I think beyond that, from now on Roger / Bree will become an important part of the story and undoubtedly they will appear more often.
Now, Brianna:Â
What can I say? I liked seeing her in the 18th century, in the place where her parents met, fell in love, formed a family. I felt bad when I saw her walking with her twisted ankle and dead tired. She is brave like her mother and would do anything to find her family, and her parents.
I donât know if I only noticed it but seeing her without her hair straightened, showing her natural curls made me think a lot about Jamie and Claireâs curls, and how she looks more like them, idk.
Bree/Laogharie:
Yesterday, when I saw the preview, it made me angry. WHY did they change such a nice part of the story and put the bitch in itâs place? I really wanted to see Bree arriving at Lallybroch, meeting first with Young Jamie and then with the rest of her family. I NEEDED to see how she put Leghair in line in front of everyone. But of course that didnât happen.
Then I thought, if I was in the middle of nowhere, dead on my feet, hungry and with a twisted ankle, and someone gives me shelter, I would be grateful. And that's what happened, Laogharie was good to her because she did not know her, she thought it was just any girl who needed a place to stay. Until that, we are ok, although I think it was unnecessary to show so much of L because she wasnât an integral part of the chapter.
What I did like was that after knowing who that girl really was, the bitch went crazy like always, and Bree finally noticed she wasnât welcome anymore, and she put her in line (I wanted the pearl tho scene). LOVED that defended his parents like they deserve. And bless Joanie, that girl is a gem.
Bree/Frank:
I donât like Frank, not at all. He made Claire suffer, he never forgave her for falling in love with another man and having a daughter, whom he wanted to take to another country when she asked for a divorce (it is not yours man, understand it), he underestimated her career, and she as a woman. .. And he hide that Jamie was alive, etc.
On the other hand, and beyond that he is garbage, he take that girl and raise her as if she were his own, and as a consequence, she always saw him as her father. For Bree itâs an essential part of her life and itâs understandable that she grieves him, that she doesnât forget him. It was a nice part because the father-daughter relationship surpasses how awful he was as a man and husband. And the last scene before Bree gets on the boat, almost made me cry, he gives her the blessing that she can go with them, and for her, thatâs enough.
Roger:
As i said before, i kind of liked him. I donât have much to say, the Gloriana thing was handled as the book (i think). Heâs compasive with the passengers and of course disagrees with Bonnetâs choices (i think we all do), and the confrontation between the two of them was nice. Done, i have nothing more to say.
Oh, and wth with his pants???? Thereâs a logical reason to wear them? Was a thing in 1770´s?
I think that was long and donât know if somebody will read it but thatâs it. I know out there are a lot of negative opinions, and i have mine, most of them shared here, but iâm enjoying the season so far. Of course i want more domestical bliss between JC but thatâs what we got. The season is already filmed and thereâs nothing we can do. See you next week đ

At sea.chapter 8
Laoghaire questions Jamie.
Night had fallen now, but music still blared and the camp fires spotted around the beach blazed on.
He heard someone approaching him as he stood looking out to sea, his face was blazing because of Angusâs earlier statement, he was hoping he could calm himself before he had to offer an explanation of sorts to Claire.
âAre ye alright Jamie, yer face was like thunder earlier you dinna look too happy?â
She was sliding up closer to him.
âIâm fine Laoghaireâ
âYer clearly not fine Jamie, I ken you well enoughâ
He ignored her not responding hoping she would go away.
âWhat happened with us Jamie, I rang ye and waiting and ye never rang me back, did I do something wrong?â
He could hear the tremor in her voice, thatâs all he needed her crying and carrying on in front of the whole beach, Claire would surely bolt.
âIt wasna your fault Laoghaire, I had things going on, it just dinna work outâ
He quickly followed it with.
âThese things happenâ
Hoping that would do the trick.
âIs it that Sassenach slut the one in yer bed these days then?â
He could feel his temper rising.
âLaoghaire ye weâre never in my bed ye needna concern yerself with who is ... and if I hear of ye calling Claire something like that again you and I will be in need of a serious conversationâ
She shook her head in bewilderment at that, as if she couldnât understand why her speaking of Claire badly would have any effect on him.
He knew then Laoghaire clearly had no inclination that he was in love with Claire.
He just wished she would go away he knew Claire would be able to see her speaking to him and he was on the verge of killing Angus as it was, he didnât think he could hold his temper at bay if Laoghaire kept up this line of conversation.
Laoghaireâs voice had risen since his last statement.
âWhy Jamie, why are ye treating me so, I was yer girlfriend was I no?â Laoghaire was starting to screech now.
âLaoghaire you weâre never my girlfriend, we went on 3 dates I shouldna..â
âI mean it was wrong of me to lead you on and Iâm sorry for it, I shouldna taken advantage knowing that I wasnât willing to have ye as well as anything more than a casual thing..it was wrong and Iâm truly sorryâ
âBut Jamie I dinna mind if ye are not ready to commit to me now, I am happy to continue what he had, it was fun no?â
âNo Laoghaire, Iv commited to someone elseâ
There was deadly silence, he knew she was piecing the way he was with Claire earlier, working out that maybe Claire was who he had committed toâ
âShe is still fucking Gerry Forbes do ye ken that? That Sassenach ..â
She stopped short in whatever name she was going to label Claire with.
Jamieâs heart stopped, he knew in his head Claire wouldnât do that, he was certain but the mention of it made his heart speed up considerably, he wasnât sure if it was the idea of Claire being with anyone else past or present that was causing his distress.
âI seen them with my own eyes last week Jamie, he told me himself he was gonna ask her out proper stupid fool, then I saw themâ
âIs that soâ
âAye it is, I dinna want to hurt you Jamie but she is a deceitful lying bitchâ
With that he grabbed her by her upper arms with such force, he drew back quickly when he realised she was a lass and he couldnât physically hurt her.
âSpeak of her like that again and il..â
His breathing was heavy now he knew he was losing control over his actions he needed to think to calm his mind.
She made to leave but stood directly behind him.
âIt was in the janitors closet ye ken, I saw him pull her in there only last week, I stood outside it and I could hear him fucking her, groaning her name over and overâ
Jamie didnât turn around he didnât want her the smile creeping upon his lips .
He wanted to shout that it was not Gerry Forbes but him groaning her name but he had to consider what that would mean for Claire.
