My heart already belongs to Edith, derided, belittled and ignored simply for being born female. ** Hugh Walpole, erstwhile popular author with 40-odd titles to his name, recently rescued from late neglect by the likes of Tartarus and Valancourt. Bagged this 1933 first edition of short stories (some supernatural, not all) and can't get through them fast enough, am enjoying them so much. There's even a touch of Denton Welch about the pieces written from the point of view of a young boy, in the evocation of place and atmosphere, and Tarnhelm is possibly the best werewolf story I've ever read.
