There was a time, in the not so recent past, in which I was willing to sacrifice my horsemanship for the sake of competition/winning. . I’ve since learned, and my horses are grateful to me for this lesson, that there are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going, and that includes winning. . I want a partner, a horse that’s willing to go to the ends of the earth for me because he trusts me, because I’ve never let the competition side take over doing what’s best for him mentally and physically. . That’s not to say that I won’t do the right things to help him physically If he needs them: shoeing, injections, extra groceries, but I want a horse that’s confident in what I’m asking of them. .
