The Meledugno arch (more precisely known as the "Arco degli Innamorati" or Lovers' Arch) was a famous natural limestone rock formation at Torre Sant'Andrea, in the coastal area of Melendugno, Puglia, southern Italy. This iconic sea arch, part of the striking faraglioni (sea stacks) along the Adriatic coast, long symbolized romance—serving as a popular backdrop for wedding proposals, photos, and postcards.
Tragically, it collapsed into the sea during the night of February 14-15, 2026 (Valentine's Day weekend), after days of intense storms, high winds, heavy rainfall, and powerful wave surges from a system named Storm Oriana. The extreme weather accelerated ongoing coastal erosion, weakening the structure until the connecting arch finally crumbled, leaving only jagged pillars behind.
