it’s certainly not free of hate and i don’t know what author you speak of as this is a collective world created exclusively by a select few ( jenny rolling who??? ) 

though racism, like sexism, seems to not be as prevalent in the magical world there is still and undercurrent of it that runs deep throughout every interaction. harry discovers very quickly that that two worlds, though separated by a level of secrecy, are not that different at all on any level. this includes on matters of race.

because harry is harry, however, he does his part for some time to tune it out. like with the dursleys, he has a unique ability to tune out the white noise which detracts from his overall objective of keeping himself safe / alive / out of harms way. — there are little ways in which this comes out that he is able to clock: discussions and theories on why he is able to talk to snakes beyond ‘ heir of slytherin ‘ ( rooted in stereotypes ), death eaters constantly being baffled as to why he was marked as voldemort’s #1 enemy, snide comments by draco’s posse about his hair and the way he looks, but i think it really surfaces in an ugly way when harry’s selected as triwizard champion. 

because not only is there any idea that harry ( suddenly viewed as smarmy and conniving….. hmmmm ) doesn’t look like the champion of hogwarts while cedric does. of course, this is mostly bred out of the belief that harry did in fact cheat but at the same time there is a reason why no one thinks beyond a base theory ( despite the three prior years it had been known he almost was killed ).
