Why Does Slovak Have Two Verbs Instead of One?
One of the biggest surprises for learners of Slovak is discovering that there are often two verbs where English has only one.
For example:
robiť → to do (ongoing action)
urobiť → to do / to complete (finished action)
Or:
písať → to write
napísať → to write (and finish writing)
This isn't about memorizing extra vocabulary.
It's about understanding how Slovak speakers think about actions.
English usually marks time with tenses.
Slovak often marks whether an action is complete or still in progress.
