The painful dreadful road to enlightenment 

or should I said: The agonizing path of discovering new software whilst in the production phase.

For the last week, I have been struggling to learn TV Paint. From the personality test done in the interdisciplinary project, I learnt that I have a low tolerance of frustration. To learn new software, not only you will be constantly frustrated with not achieving the desired results but also you have to reset your mind from scratch, and in a way, I did. It has been hard for me but I know I will get through this.

Aaron Blase has been not only an inspiration to do 2D animation, but also my major mentor. Here is one of the most complete tutorials I have seen in order to get the proper introduction of this software. I had to rewatch it like 5 times to get it right.

The good thing about learning something new is that you will find great surprises along the way. In the next tutorial, I found an interesting 2D FX to make moving “particles”. On the 8:12 minute mark, The tutor here explained the “Animator Stroke”. Which consist in a way that, after extending several frames, you hold the Ctrl (PC) or Command(Mac) and start to draw in order to create a moving texture. This is really useful for me because I will rely heavily on these types of particles, to create some magical 2D FX.

This last tutorial is one of the reasons I decided to do the 2D animation from my film on TV Paint. Here Mr Blaise explains how the colour is placed to the right way quick and easy.

As long as I continue studying the tool I will achieve better results on timing and animation. I know I can use my skills in order to great a great piece of inspiration for the audience.
