#leafy trees

Spring shows what God can do with a drab and dirty world.

The one literary description that incites something in me, for better or worse, is "leafy trees." I've seen it in a few books, but my first, and most memorable, experience was in Disenchanted by Leigh Goff.

I met Goff at a book fair in Northern Virginia and loved her premise. It's a retelling of the Salem witch trials, centered in Wethersfield, CT. I'd just visited there for a wedding and found it beautiful, enchanting even.

Long story short, it's not. I threw it onto the coffee table at around a third the way in. It sat there untouched until it was picked up again during a party. The best, and possibly only, way to properly consume this book is to hear it projected with partially intoxicates gusto.
