Meet our opening #keynote speaker for #YASS2017. Jessica (Jay) Page is a 1.5-generation Filipina American. Born in Pasay City, Philippines, she immigrated to the Bay Area in 1993. Her work in community mental health is strongly influenced by her native Filipinx culture. She believes that in order to effectively assist community members in healing, we must understand their culture and history going back previous generations. Growing up she felt there was no space for her in academia; she loves to mentor young people with similar experiences. Aside from her job in mental health she is the Head Organizer for L.E.A.D. Filipino's Educational Programs. With this platform, she provides free Filipino Studies programs to the San Jose area. Come join us this Saturday, August 19, 2017, at #UCDavis for our Youth Advocacy & Solidarity Summit! ___ #riseupyolo #leadfilipino #ethnicstudies
