Le Pollen, Pierre Barouh (1983)
It isn’t often that a credits list combines exactly in one’s ears as imagined from paper; read through the musicians on Le Pollen and one fantasises of blends of chanson and the electronic edges of city pop, a fusion of the pithy synthpop of Yukihiro Takahashi, mystically-tinged jazz pop of Yasuaki Shimizu, melodic new wave of early ‘80s Moonriders, calm atmospheres of Motohiko Hamase and arabesque piano lines of Ryuichi Sakamoto. That’s what is imagined, and that is exactly what one gets.
