London Design Festival - Shoreditch
A group trip to Shoreditch during the London design festival on Friday the 22nd of October.
The experience I had was totally different than what I have expected. I had in mind that there were going to be a number of installation designs and art pieces across the area, whereas the festival was seen more as design applied to the existing stores to create a ‘design concept’ for its audience.
I personally enjoyed the area as it consistently brought questions as to why or how any of what was there could be seen as design.
For instance the JW Anderson fashion store, AIDA fashion store and the Jeans store. How can one view these regular fashion stores to design? Well I thought the theme for each of those stores were simply design. Isn’t rose latte made in AIDA, a fashion store, design? Isn’t the concept of exchanging old jeans with 20% discount for brand new jeans design thinking?
Then there were those other areas that were more design based like exhibitions and installations. Le Broom, the reflection room was one of my favorites. A dark mysterious living room kind of that seemed like it was reflected in a mirror, but instead was an installation on the other side of the room.
