I want to be clear on this though, the Raphael we see at the end of SCVI (the secret ending) is absolutely at a point of being lost. We can pity him once he returns home to find Amy gone, we can empathize with him. But his choices in SCIII and SCIV (which in my canon is blended with the new SCVI origin, but instead of wanting to change the world for Amy, he wants to find her instead) cement his wickedness. The choices he makes, even if out of grief and the madness the very knowledge of the sword instilled in him (made worse by the loss of Amy) are truly awful and vile. That Raphael doesn’t deserve a hug, he deserved to be stopped, which he was since we learned he died at the end of SCIV. Post SCV Raph is a tabula rasa, his memories so corrupted by his body’s possession by Soul Edge/Inferno. All he knows is Amy’s name and I think that opens a chance for him to start over. We know now that for a time, he was a good man, love taught him goodness. In learning his past, his crimes and his horrors, he has a chance to move forward in a different direction, atone for what he’s done. Because I imagine learning that’s who you became would change someone’s outlook. That Raph absolutely deserves a hug, but god, he’s such a complicated character. I could talk about it all day tbh.
