it bugs me when I say I signed a hip hop band (ladyblazer if you haven't been paying attention) and I automatically see a grimace on the face of the person I'm talking to. first off, please don't use the words 'thug' or 'hood' to talk about the band you know nothing about/haven't actually listened to. 3/4 of the band is white as fuck and the other 1/4 def wouldn't appreciate the half-hearted racism that those words bring to the table. we went to a professional studio and created a strong and thoughtful album with intelligent professional musicians, don’t degrade us like that.  second off, don't write off a whole genre. ever. that's like the most close-minded thing you can do as a musician/listener. if you write off hip hop because that song on the radio about partying and drugs made you uncomfortable, you're missing out on a whole lot. third off, Ladyblazer has just as much in common with Mos Def as they do Modest Mouse. it's about genre fusion, making something new. open your mind a bit more, I bet you'd like it. don't knock it till you hear it, it's the most fresh thing I've released this year and if hearing 'hip hop' turns you off, you're missing the fuck out.
