Ahh no I meant a slight amount of midotaka involved
Aight. Iâm doing a one shot cause I feel like trying it out. Hope you enjoy it!!
The news didnât seem real. His little sister⊠not alive anymore? No, it just seemed like a cruel joke from the universe. How could she not be there anymore? If she wasnât, Takao would easily fall apart.
But his mom was crying on the hospital waiting area, his father was hugging her tight and trying to fight tears forming on his own eyes. The doctor told them what happened but when they broke, she kept talking to Takao. He felt way too much to have any of it manifest in public. So the doctor told him more, and all he could do was nod. He couldnât do anything else.
If he could, heâd be breaking down, along with his parents.
Playing basket the day after he heard the news felt like an insult to his sister. How could Takao continue his club activities when someone he deeply loved was gone and his family was broken for it? The answer is: he couldnât.
He simply skipped practice.
Minutes after he got home, to his parents yelling on their bedroom, his phone buzzed. It was a message from Midorima.
âWhere are you? Practiceâs already started.â It read.
Takao threw the phone on his bed and went to take a shower. He didnât feel like replying.
The next day was just as bleak and numb as the one before. Takao couldnât wallow on the depression forever but at that moment, he didnât have the strength required pull himself out. When he would have it, was the question.
At school, Midorima intercepted Takao, who was on his way out of the premises. He thought he could skip practice yet again but his teammate didnât seem like heâd let it happen.
âDonât tell me youâre going home.â Midorimaâs voice was annoyed, as he stared down at Takao.
âIâm going to Wonderland, then.â Takao replied, as irritated. He tried swerving past Midorima but his teammates reflexes where just as good off the court.
âWhy are you purposefully missing practice?â Midorima inquired. âYou, most of all, doesnât get off my case when I do.â
âShin-chan, my sister died, okay?!â Takao let out. âJust two days ago and I am not in the mood. So yes, I am going home. See you later.â
Leaving a confused and perplexed Midorima behind, Takao felt a sinking feeling in his chest. Normally he wouldnât be that mean to Midorima.
The fact that he wasnât the only person in the world to have lost a loved one did nothing to his own despair. It did nothing to appease the pain because there was no godamn appeasing it. The loss of his little sister would hurt, forever, and heâd have to learn how to live with that.
God only knew that three days werenât enough.
On day three, Takao decided to skip school altogether. His parents didnât put much of a fight on the matter.
He woke up and sat on the couch with both of them. They had bags under their eyes and were very close to snoozing off. It didnât take a genius to know they hadnât been sleeping well.
After a while, Takao decided to let them sleep in peace. The turned off the TV they had been watching before locking himself inside his room.
The tears finally came at night.
Saturday morning came with multiple concerned texts from Midorima. Takao answered none, heâd deal with it at school on Monday. Maybe by then heâd feel a better. Just maybe.
Sunday morning came with a call from Midorima. Takao decided to answer.
âHello.â His friendâs voice woke him up.
âHey, Shin-chan.â Takao was surprised at the sound of his own voice. It was hoarse and painful to hear. Crying for two nights in a row did that to you.
âDo you think youâll come back to school on Monday.â It was half a question.
âI have to.â Takao replied without missing a beat. âCanât skip on school forever.â
âAnd practice?â That was a hard one to answer.
It took Takao a moment. âMaybe next week.â
âUnderstandable.â Midorima could be nodding on the other side of the landline. âCall me if you need anything.â
That was the Midorima that Takao knew. Concise and straight to the point. It was good to have that kind of support.
